Mexico Aquarium Information
Aquarium Professionals Group Installs Aquariums in Mexico
While there are good sources for smaller aquariums (up to 1000 liters) in
Mexico, these aquarium companies are usually only located in larger cities. The
aquarium hobby is not as popular in Mexico as it is in the United States so
demand for larger custom aquariums is low. Aquarium Professionals Group has
experience in installing aquariums in Mexico. If you are seeking a larger custom
aquarium, please consider our company for your project.

Mexican Government Restrictions
Please note the Mexican government does not place undue restrictions on US
aquarium companies wanting to do work in Mexico. Generally, the only limitation
placed on "business visitors" is that they are only allowed to stay in
Mexico for thirty days per visit. As most aquariums can be installed in less
than thirty days and very large aquariums typically require multiple visits to
complete, this restriction has never proven to be a problem.
Please note that all materials for aquarium installations must be shipped to
Mexico from the United States via truck. Typical customs inspection time at the
border may take up to two weeks before a shipment may be released into Mexico so
additional time must be allowed to complete a project.
The biggest challenge faced in installing aquariums in Mexico are limited local
resources for fish and other aquarium life. Unless you desire a saltwater
Mexican native species aquarium or a freshwater aquarium, the majority of
livestock for an aquarium must be imported into Mexico from the United States.
The export/import process for live animals requires first obtaining an import
broker in Mexico who will file the proper documentation with Mexican
authorities, obtain the proper permits, then pick up shipments from customs at
the airport. Aquarium Professionals Group will file documentation with US
authorities but you will be responsible for hiring a broker and the
documentation process in Mexico. The entire process can take up to eight weeks
for each shipment of livestock so should be planned before the installation
starts.
Types of Aquariums We Can Install in Mexico
Please note that Mexican government has banned the importation of
natural decorative coral (coral skeletons) into Mexico. Marine fish-only
aquariums must therefore be decorated either with live rock or artificial coral.
Additionally, Mexico restricts the importation of certain species of live
corals, crustaceans and mollusks for live coral reef aquariums.
Fees, Taxes, Customs and Duties
Aquarium Professionals Group does not include any estimation of fees, licenses,
taxes or duties imposed by national, state or local governments in our
quotations. Payment of any and all government fees, licenses, taxes or duties
are the responsibility of and must be paid directly by the aquarium owner when
they are due.
